[ she's heard about scarlet. weapons division, she thinks, but it's more so the executive's...personality that has tifa wincing when she reads what rufus wrote. she doesn't know much about the hierarchy concerning those who are beneath the president and vice president, but she knows that shinra would stop at nothing to eradicate any threats that come their way.
it really says something when she thinks about this sort of ally-ship she's got going on with rufus and, by extension, his turks. maybe when this is dealt with, she'll have to talk to him about it. she's been keeping this from the others--and maybe cloud might able to be reasoned with, but she knows she'll have a harder time with barret. it almost feels like a betrayal, what she's been doing, which is mostly keeping in contact with rufus, but she also knows that barret's views of the world tend to be more based with clear binaries. maybe this is something she can keep from him, never let him know, and both she and rufus can continue to play the part as being on two opposite sides where they consider each other the enemy.
she mulls this over while making her way to marlene's room and ensuring the little girl is safe. as she's doing so, she can see more figures approaching the bar. a few of them are talking, but none of them bear any resemblance, based on their silhouettes of either reno or elena. quickly and quietly, she gathers marlene in her arms, the little girl grumbling a bit at being woken up and tifa shushes her as she sneaks out from the back door and making her way to stargazer heights. once she knows marlene is safe, thanks to marle, she returns back to seventh heaven and can see that there's a few more figures who look like they're staking out the place.
she hides behind one of the shops and takes out her phs, dialling rufus's number. ] Whatever Heidegger and Scarlet are planning with the Don, it's happening right now. I think I see about [ she stops to count the number of figures she can see from where she's crouched. ] 15 people. Can you spare anymore Turks?
[Rufus had always known Heidegger and Scarlet wanted him out of the way, even before his father had met his untimely end. He remembers all too well how Heidegger wanted Rufus dealt with after his betrayal had been revealed when he was Vice President. It was only because of what remaining sentimentality that the former President had for him that he had only been banished to a room for years.
But he was angry that they had no idea that Scarlet and Heidegger had apparently decided to involve the Don in their plans. Of course, it made sense. They could eliminate Avalanche and Rufus along with his Turks easier that way. And under either Heidegger or Scarlet's rule, the Don would have a more lucrative deal.
He had to stop to think that it was strange that it seemed once more that he was helping Avalanahe by providing information and perhaps funding if needed. Tseng wasn't as amused when Rufus pointed out, only remarking flately that at least hopefully this time it wouldn't lead to house arrest. But right now the threat posed by the Don, Scarlet, and Heidegger was a common threat that needed to be dealt with apparently that night.
Her call comes in the middle of his discussion with Tseng, holding up a hand to pause their conversation as he picks up the phone as soon as he recognizes Tifa's number. Tseng hadn't been thrilled with Rufus providing her his private line but in the end, Rufus was glad that he had made that decision.]
Rude is monitoring Heidegger and Scarlet and Tseng is with me. Tseng says he has some trusted guards he will send to back up Elena and Reno at your location.
[Rufus puts his phs down, putting it on speaker so Tseng can hear their conversation easier.]
I have no doubt that this is a coordinated operation, you should warn your friends to expect company shortly as well if they don't know already.
[He's not doing this out of the good of his heart- he knows they'll need Cloud if they are to have any chance of stopping Sephiroth eventually. But that's a matter for another time, if they can get through the night.]
[ the events are unfolding right before her very eyes. she notices that some of the don's men aren't taking this seriously, or they've been given orders to do whatever they wanted as long as the job gets done. she has a sinking feeling that collateral damage is what they're aiming for; a feud between the sectors. everyone knows well enough that if someone crosses the don, it's the end for them. at least, that's what she's been told in the five years she's been living in the slums.
in the dim light that the neon signs give off, she can see that they're carrying weapons--weapons that look to be a little too advanced for anything that can be found in the slums. these suspicions of the don working with an executive who also has access to shinra weapons, and perhaps other tech, adds to this sinking feeling. the neighbourhood watch is equipped, surely, but not with what these lackeys are packing. ]
I think Scarlet may have given the Don access to some of your weapons. [ she's still crouched in her hidden location, speaking as softly as she can into the PHS. a silver lining to this is that there's enough background noise to keep her location a secret, but she has a feeling that won't be the case for long. the leader, or someone who's acting like it, is giving orders to canvas the area. surely one, or a few, will come to where she is and all hell will break loose. there's a soft hitch in her breath, which she's sure rufus can hear, when she sees one of the figures approaching the shop she's using as a makeshift hideout. ]
Shit!
[ she moves as quietly and as quickly as she can, trying not to alert anyone of where she is. when she is able to do so successfully, she takes a moment to catch her breath. she told rufus she could handle the don's lackeys on her worst days, but not when they've been equipped with shinra weapons and other tech. if the turks he dispatched are in the area, she has to wonder if they know they're outnumbered and outmatched. ]
They're starting to canvas the area, nothing drastic yet. [ she's resumed in giving a play-by-play of the situation into the receiver so that rufus knows what's going on--if his turks haven't already done so. ] Yeah, I don't know if I can do that right now. Kinda stuck between a rock and a hard place...
Hold on, I'm going to switch over to speaker so Tseng can hear. He's coordinating with Reno and Elena as we speak.
[The sound of his voice shifted as he switches over, his voice echoing slightly. This had started as a quiet night, Rufus had been intending to go to bed early even since he had finished most of the work he had intended to get done.
But all of that was out of the question now, this was going to be a long night and when he glances at Tseng standing next to him, he knew neither of them had planned for anything like this. There was nothing they could do now about it, however.]
Where are you at? I'm going to have Elena and Reno find you.
[Even through the phone he can hear voices giving order though he couldn't make out the words. He knew how bad it was that at least Scarlet was working with the Don and he was sure Heidegger was involved. He had given Rude instructions to keep them busy tonight though so that the Don wouldn't have access to them for further orders or additional support.]
I know I'm asking a lot but I need your help. If you along with Elena and Reno can capture the leader and perhaps a few the lackeys, along with the tech they have, it will provide us with evidence and information that would benefit both of us.
[He knew it was asking a lot asking for her help working with the Turks on a mission with something incredibly dangerous but he knew that she could more than old her own in a fight.]
They're finished with everything, sir.
[Tseng's voice was quiet, there is a pause before Rufus speaks again.]
Keep your phone on at least until the two of them find you so we know what's going on.
Right... [ She keeps her position hidden, not wanting to make any sudden movements or speak louder than a whisper--especially when she can't see exactly how many lackeys are in the area. The worst part about this is that, judging by what she was able to gather just by glancing at them, they wouldn't have cared if there were witnesses to this. It's no secret that ShinRa wants the AVALANCHE faction in the slums out of their way and they're willing to do whatever it takes to see that done.
Given these circumstances, she doesn't care what Barret or Cloud has to say about Rufus and his Turks; they need their help as much as they need theirs and this really isn't a time where they have to be choosy about their allies. The end goal, the one she can see that's in sight, is to make sure that no one else gets hurt while all of this is going down. Barret can hoo and hah all he wants, but she's going to, temporarily, put her trust in the Turks to see this thing through. ]
...I think they're closing in on the bar. [ She's shifted her position, somewhat, to get a better look of what's going on from her vantage point and she isn't wrong. A few of them have circled around the back and she can clearly hear the sound of a door being knocked in; either it was kicked in or they have some kind of portable battering ram. Whatever the case, it's not looking good because if they're inside then surely they're going to start looking around, and the last thing she wants is for them to figure out where the secret hideout is. ]
Tell your Turks to cover me. [ Tifa takes the decision to forgo her hiding spot and vaults over where she'd been crouching down and into the open. It takes about five seconds for someone to notice her, in which there's a shout to alert the others, but she's faster and takes him out with a single punch. She has just enough time to secure her gloves and ensure her materia is equipped before she moves onto the next one. The goal is to take them out before they have time to grab their weapons, in which she's using the element of surprise to her advantage.
If it's one thing the Don lacks, it's the fact that he hires really shitty security detail. These thugs are so easy to get through that it's like taking scissors to paper dolls. She knows it won't always be like this, that one of them, or a few, will be smart enough to hide their locations and use a surprise attack against her but, for now, Tifa's managing just fine.
She remembers what Rufus asked, about trying to find their leader and keeping him, along with a few others, alive to bring back for questioning. Another thing she's noticed is that, when one of them does pull his weapon against her, it's pretty easy to destroy with one of her punches or kicks. She's not thinking about the semantics right now, but there's a thought that tickles the back of her mind that maybe Scarlet, or Heidegger, planned for this to happen, for the Don's men to be taken out so easily and maybe pin it on him so that ShinRa's hands and name are cleared from doing any dirty business deals.
From the five years she's spent living here, she's gotten to know, through reputation, the ShinRa executives and what lengths they'd go to to get what they wanted--either for the company or for themselves.
No doubt, throughout this whole ordeal, Rufus and Tseng would've heard what was going on; all the expletives shouted at Tifa as she made her way through the lackeys, disarming them and knocking them unconscious. By the end of it, she's wrangled them into a pile, their arms and legs bound with zip ties she took from them and their weapons a pile of broken parts next to them. ]
You still there? Send your guys in and take away the trash. [ She hangs up her PHS and pockets in, going to the bar and behind the counter where she pours herself a drink and sits on one of the stools so she can keep watch in case any of them try to do something funny before Reno and Elena arrive. ]
